SANBI Internships (Joan Wrench Scholarship Fund) 2019 / 2020, South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) invites applicants to apply for Joan Wrench Scholarship Fund / Internship Programme for academic year 2019 / 2020
The Joan Wrench Scholarship Fund was established in 2018 to recognise academic achievement of young professionals and to provide financial support to pursue practical training or postgraduate studies in relevant biodiversity fields.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is pleased to announce a call for applications for internships in the following areas:

  • Botanical Horticulture
  • Restoration, Conservation Planning
  • Nature Conservation
  • Biodiversity Information Management
  • Plant Taxonomy
  • Environmental Education
  • Reintroduction/Restoration of Threatened Plant Species
  • Biodiversity Planning

Requirements:
Candidates must be enthusiastic and have a keen interest in the conservation of biodiversity. No prior working experience is required but a strong academic record at university will be an advantage. A driving license with at least one year’s driving experience will be an added advantage. These internships are only available to South African citizens and will be awarded in line with national equity targets. See below minimum qualifications for placement options:



·        Botanical Horticulture BTech in Horticulture
·        Restoration, Conservation Planning Honours/Masters in Biological Sciences(with Botany or Ecology)
·        Nature Conservation BTech in Nature Conservation
·        Biodiversity Information Management Honours in Envionmental Science/Computer Science (with Data Science)
·        Plant Taxonomy Honours/Masters in Botany
·        Environmental Education BSc in Natural Sciences/Geographical Sciences/Environmental Science
·        Reintroduction/Restoration of Threatened Plant Species Honours/Masters in Botany
·        Biodiversity Planning Honours/Masters in Biological Sciences (with Botany or Zoology) or Environmental Science (with GIS)

Conditions:



  • Applicants must be South African citizens
  • Applicants must reside in the Western Cape
  • Applicants must not be enrolled for higher degrees for the 2019 academic year
  • Applicants can only apply for one of the positions

Internship monthly stipend values:

  • Bachelors completed (or equivalent to NQF 7): R6 050
  • Honours completed (or equivalent to NQF 8): R7 150
  • Masters completed (or equivalent to NQF 9): R8 250

Internship Application Closing Date: 31 August 2018 (successful candidates will be notified by 1 October 2018)
